Echocardiography / Cardiac Imaging

Clear Insight Into Your Heart Health

At Pathway Imaging, we provide advanced echocardiography (echo) and cardiac imaging services to help physicians evaluate the structure and function of your heart. Using safe, non-invasive techniques, our cardiac imaging helps detect heart disease early, guide treatment, and monitor ongoing care.

What is Echocardiography?

Echocardiography, or an echo, is a type of ultrasound that uses sound waves to create real-time images of the heart. It shows how the heart muscle and valves are working, how blood flows through the chambers, and whether there are any abnormalities.

Types of Echocardiography & Cardiac Imaging We Offer

  • Transthoracic Echocardiogram (TTE): The most common echo, performed externally on the chest wall.
  • Stress Echocardiogram: Combines ultrasound with exercise or medication to see how the heart performs under stress.
  • Doppler Echocardiography: Measures the direction and speed of blood flow through the heart.
  • Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE): A specialized exam that uses a small probe in the esophagus for clearer images of the heart’s structures.
  • Cardiac CT & MRI (when needed): Provides advanced imaging of the heart and blood vessels for comprehensive evaluation.

Common Reasons for Cardiac Imaging

  • Detecting heart valve disease
  • Evaluating chest pain, shortness of breath, or palpitations
  • Identifying congenital heart defects
  • Measuring heart function after a heart attack
  • Monitoring heart disease or the effectiveness of treatment
  • Assessing risk factors in patients with hypertension, diabetes, or family history of heart disease

What to Expect During Your Exam

  • Preparation: Most echocardiograms require little preparation. For stress or TEE exams, special instructions may be provided in advance.
  • During the Exam: A technologist applies gel to your chest and moves a handheld device (transducer) over the skin to capture heart images. For stress echo, images are taken before and after exercise.
  • Time: Most exams take 30–60 minutes.
  • After the Exam: You can return to normal activities right away. Results are interpreted by board-certified cardiology radiologists and sent promptly to your physician.
